We wouldn't go so far as to say one wood is "best." Each has its fans, some have detractors, and we have our own recommendations.
Maple: By far, the most popular material for wood bats today known for its density and durability.
Birch: The second most popular wood, birch's hardness solidifies with use, instead of starting at peak hardness.
Ash: We do not recommend this for youth players. Ash is an old-school wood, favoring performance over durability.
Cupping is when we hollow out the barrel of a bat.
Hollowing the barrel makes for a less end-loaded bat. This reduces "power", but increases balance and swing speed.
Obviously, what's right for you is going to depend on what you're looking to do.
If it helps, the majority of baseball bats get cupped, while the majority of softball bats do not.
Two factors in when your order will arrive:
Can I Customize It? Outside of our Elite Series, weight is going to be fixed based on the category and model you select.
Why Is This Bat's Weight A Range? Every wood billet is a little different. Two billets of the exact same size and weight can produce two slightly different bats. For most, the difference is negligible. For Ultralights, rest assured we always get them as light as we can.
Weight in ounces?: For the uninitiated, -3 ("drop three") means "three ounces less than the length." So, a 34" bat rated -3 will weigh 31 oz.
If you are seeing this little unpainted dot, it is no glitch. It is very intentional.
Professional-level bats are held to very strict standards, requiring extremely straight grain. To enable inspection, these pro bats require an unfinished "ink-dot".
An ink-dot is a sign that you are holding a bat of very high quality.
Generally speaking, pretty accurate.
That being said, much as we try, in certain browsers and at certain window sizes, things may not line up perfectly.
The engraving text can be a problem child at times. So, if things look a little off, rest assured: engravings fit up to 25 characters, even in all-caps, will appear on a single line, and will be centered with the other text on the bat.
Also, rest assured, the final product will look as amazing as those pictured throughout the site.
